5 MISTAKES TO AVOID WHILE PURSUING YOUR GOALS

5 MISTAKES TO AVOID WHILE PURSUING YOUR GOALS

Are you someone who dreams big and has the desire to achieve great success? If yes, then it is imperative for you to have specific goals that will help you systematically work towards making your dreams a reality. When you work towards pre-set goals; you are able to measure your progress, stay engaged and overcome procrastination.

Your goals must be SMART — Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. If you follow this guideline while setting your goals, there is a higher likelihood of your goals being met. For example, if “saving money” is your goal, this in itself is not a SMART goal. A SMART goal would say, “I want to save Rs. 2,000 each month in 2018.”

Here are 5 mistakes you should avoid when pursuing your goals:

  1. You don’t have to do it alone

When you are pursuing your goals, it will make a world of a difference if you have someone who is backing you up or someone you can be accountable to along the way. It is common to avoid asking for help but someone else’s perspective can really inspire you.

  1. Don’t get distracted by others

Everyone has their own unique purpose in this world. It is important that stay focused on your own purpose without worrying about what other people are working on and whether they’re seemingly making more progress than you. You must work on your goals at your pace and in your way.

  1. Don’t get caught up in routine

It is very easy to get absorbed in work that makes us feel really busy but doesn’t really move you closer to achieving your goals. This kind of work feels safe as it is routine and is often easier than taking up goal-oriented tasks. Make sure you schedule time each day to work on your goals and do not let the urgent trump the important.

  1. Don’t lose sight of the bigger picture

Journeying towards your goals can get tiring and frustrating but don’t forget why you are doing what you’re doing and keep the bigger picture in sight. Think about the joy and the sense of fulfillment you will experience when you achieve your goals.

  1. Don’t forget to celebrate along the way

Most people reserve celebrations for when they reach the finish line of a goal. However, there is no reason why you can’t celebrate little milestones you reach along the way. Doing this will motivate you to go on and boost your confidence.

Stephen A. Brennan once said, “Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.”

Press on, push through, and achieve only what YOU can.
